I had the incredible opportunity to design and produce motion graphics for the Tony Awards, right in the heart of Broadway, New York. Collaborating with Allan Wells at Fontastics Design, our team took on the challenge of bringing new energy to the show’s visuals by combining live-action footage with dynamic motion graphics.

To capture the essence of Broadway and Times Square, we filmed live-action video of the iconic large screens and seamlessly integrated photos of guest stars into them through precise motion tracking. Along with the photos, we added their names in bold graphics, complete with eye-catching chasing lights that gave the visuals a classic Broadway feel.

We leaned heavily on Adobe After Effects to pull off this intricate design work, ensuring that everything from the motion tracking to the lighting effects was flawless. The result was a vibrant and energetic graphical open sequence that set the stage for the live show.

From start to finish, our team poured creativity into every detail to make sure the motion graphics reflected the grandeur of Broadway itself. It was a thrill to watch the visuals come to life in such a prestigious setting, and to once again collaborate with such a talented group of creatives.

Being part of the Tony Awards was an absolute honor, and it’s projects like these that remind us why we love what we do.
